About Witnessing of Signatures

Witnessing of signatures confirms that you signed a document in front of a lawyer. The lawyer first checks your identity, watches you sign and then provides a written attestation that the signature was witnessed. It verifies your signature rather than notarizing the whole document.

It is often needed in the UAE when documents you have signed must go to government bodies, embassies or other third parties. We can witness signatures on affidavits, declarations, letters, application forms, confirmations and powers of attorney, among other documents.

We review the document, arrange an appointment at a date and time that suits you, and you bring a valid ID to the session and sign there.

Witnessing of Signatures

Your questions,
answered.

Is witnessing the same as notarization?

Not exactly. Witnessing confirms that you signed in front of a lawyer who has checked your identity, while notarizing a document such as a POA covers the whole document.

Who witnesses my signature?

A lawyer. They confirm who you are, see you sign and then issue the attestation confirming that your signature was witnessed.

When is witnessing of signatures needed?

It is often required when you present signed paperwork to government bodies, embassies or other third parties in the UAE.

Which documents can you witness signatures on?

Common examples include affidavits, declarations, letters, application forms, confirmations and powers of attorney. The list is not exhaustive, so contact us about any other document.

How does the process work?

You contact us and receive a personalized quote, then agree on a date and time for your appointment. At the session, you bring a valid ID, sign the document and have it attested.

Do I need to attend in person?

Yes. The lawyer has to see you sign, so you attend the witnessing session at the agreed date and time and bring a valid ID.

Will the document be accepted abroad?

It often needs further attestation. We explain the steps for the country involved.
