About Wills in Dubai

If you own assets in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, making a will is a sensible way to protect them. It lets you decide who receives what, and it lowers the chance of disagreements within your family later on.

Without a will, the UAE courts decide who inherits, usually by applying Sharia law or the law of your home country, and bank accounts can be frozen until probate is granted. A registered will makes inheritance matters far simpler for the people you leave behind.

We help you choose the right registration route, prepare a will that reflects your wishes and guide it through to registration.

Wills in Dubai

Your questions,
answered.

What happens if I pass away in the UAE without a will?

The UAE courts decide who inherits your estate, normally by applying Sharia law or the law of your home country. Your family may also wait longer to access accounts and property.

What happens to a bank account if the owner dies without a will?

The account is usually frozen straight away. Your family can only access it once the UAE court has issued probate.

How is a Dubai Courts will different from a DIFC will?

A Dubai Courts will goes through the Dubai Courts Notary Public, and the document is usually translated into Arabic for registration. A DIFC will is registered in English with the DIFC Wills Service Centre, needs no Arabic translation and is only available to non-Muslims.

Why should I make a will in the UAE?

A registered will lets you decide who inherits your UAE property instead of leaving that choice to the courts. You can also name guardians for your children, record your funeral wishes and choose who will look after your pets.

Can I name a guardian for my children?

Yes. A will allows you to name guardians for children under 18.

Can I change my will later?

Yes. You can update or replace your will whenever your circumstances change.

How much does a will in Dubai cost?

The fee depends on your circumstances and the registration route you choose. Contact us and we’ll share the pricing for preparing your Dubai will.
