DIFC Wills

Your questions,
answered.

What is a DIFC will?

It is a will registered with the DIFC Wills Service Centre, which was previously called the DIFC Wills & Probate Registry. The will is prepared and registered in English, and only non-Muslims in the UAE can make one.

Who can register a DIFC will?

The service is designed for non-Muslims aged 21 or over with assets in the UAE.

Do I have to live in the UAE?

No. The service is open to non-Muslims who own property in the UAE as well as those who live here. We confirm your eligibility before drafting.

How does DIFC will registration work?

First, an appointment for online registration is booked with the DIFC Wills Service Centre. On that date, you and two witnesses join a video call with a DIFC officer and sign electronically, and the registered will is then uploaded to the DIFC online portal.

Do I need witnesses to register a DIFC will?

Yes. Two witnesses must take part in the registration with you.

What does an executor do under a DIFC will?

The executor is the person you, as the testator, choose to carry out the instructions in your will. Their job is to make sure your assets reach the rightful heirs after your death.

How is probate handled for a DIFC will?

Probate takes place at the DIFC Courts and is conducted in English. The procedure is designed to be fast, simple and affordable.

How is a DIFC will different from a Dubai Courts will?

A DIFC will is registered in English with the DIFC Wills Service Centre and is only for non-Muslims, while a Dubai Courts will goes through the Dubai Courts Notary Public and is usually translated into Arabic. We explain which suits you better.
