About Abu Dhabi Wills

In Abu Dhabi, will registration is handled by the Civil Wills Office of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), which accepts wills from both Muslims and non-Muslims. Non-Muslims can have their will governed by non-Sharia law, so their assets pass according to their own wishes.

Every will has to be prepared in English and Arabic before it can be registered, and you can amend it at any point after registration.

We draft your will, arrange the Arabic translation and guide you through registration, whether online or in person.

What we take care of

  • Drafting of your will around your needs
  • Changes to the draft until you approve it

Abu Dhabi Wills

Your questions,
answered.

As a non-Muslim expat, can I make a will in Abu Dhabi?

Yes. The ADJD lets non-Muslims, whether they live in the UAE or not, make a will governed by non-Sharia law. This means their assets are shared out according to their own wishes.

Who can make a will with the ADJD?

Any non-Muslim with assets in the UAE is eligible, whether or not they live here. You must also be over 18 and have the legal capacity to decide how your estate is handled.

Do I have to live in the UAE to make an Abu Dhabi will?

No. Residents and non-residents can both register a will with the ADJD, provided it deals with assets located in the UAE.

What can an Abu Dhabi will cover?

It can cover your UAE assets, such as property, vehicles, bank accounts, shares and any other movable or immovable assets. You can also include guardianship arrangements for children who are minors.

Can a will cover assets in other emirates?

Yes. An ADJD will can cover assets anywhere in the UAE, although it is worth checking how each asset is registered.

Does my will need to be in Arabic?

Yes. Before registration, the will must be prepared in both English and Arabic. We arrange the Arabic translation once you approve the draft.

Can I register my will remotely?

Yes. Registration can be completed online or in person, and we support you with either option.

Can I change my will after it is registered?

Yes. An Abu Dhabi will can be amended at any time after registration.
